This piece comes from a body of work I was making between 2017-2022 and has since formed the basis of my artistic practice. Working with coils of clay to make energetic drawings in clay and using the principles of collage to make unexpertced connections between different pieces and times. This piece was originally shown as part of an installation at HOME in Manchester, in a project looking at constructed languages and alternative futures. Inspired by a book called Native Tongue by Suzette Haden Elgin.

I’m fundraising at the moment to develop my creative practice - I’m looking to eventually move to a bigger studio and invest in a new kiln. I’ve spent the last 2 years as an artist in residence at a ceramics department at a university and it has opened up my way of working immensely. I’d like to find a way to bring that back to the studio with me.
