These earrings are a limited edition collection made using leftover clay. The same processes are used but the colour combinations and patterns created are left more to chance. All the clay from this collection is leftover from the Rock Candy slice collection which was originally made as an exclusive for Tate Modern shops in 2019.
Rock Candy Slice collection
Inspired by rock formations in geology and childhood visits to Blackpool and my local sweet factory to watch the demos of boiled sweets being manufactured, the "Rock candy slice" collection incorporates similar processes found in sugar work. The pieces start out large and are then compressed and stretched to form long sticks of rock (or canes) that contain patterns which are then sliced. Each slice is unique as the patterns shift slightly throughout. The pressure applied when forming the canes mimics the shifts and changes found in slow-moving geological happenings; when elements combine and compress over millions of years to form crystals and rocks filled with colour and pattern.
